Hotel Neptun - Rostock Warnemünde, Baltic Sea.
November 3rd, 2009
The “Neptun” hotel is located at the promenade of Warnemünde, Baltic Sea. It was built in 1971 when the state of ‘Mecklenburg Vorpommern’ was part of the ‘DDR’ and originally served foreigners only, in order to collect foreign currency. When Erich Honecker came to power, it opened 70 percent of its capacity for ‘the people’ (well, at least those with money and influence such as party officials and party members). It was equipped with the first ‘Discothek’ of the Country, a sea-water swimming-hall with shafting system and a ’sky-bar’ which was capable of opening up parts of the roof for ‘dances under the stars’. The trick is that each room has got ocean view.
